Avengers Infinity War is amazing, it's a comic book in every sense of the world , just made into a movie. I always told people Avengers while an amazing film , wasn't as unique as people thought, there has been tons of ensemble movies with revolving parts that have worked , that one just happened to be a superhero film. Infinity War .............wow, just wow , the film is a technical achievement in sense and scope , juggling multiple characters , perspectives , old plot points and tying it into a cohesive narrative.
Infinity war follows mostly , or should I say focuses on Thanos , our villain on his quest to balance the universe , a desire rooted in a surprisingly compelling backstory, he has powerful henchmen who back him up, and he is very imposing. To do this he needs the infinity stones , powerful gems which can bend reality to his will , which are scattered across the universe , some are in possesion of our heroes ( the avengers and guardians of the galaxy ) , this puts our heroes and Thanos in a collision course.
It introduces the one thing I have rarely felt in a marvel film , a credible threat and tension, the stakes in this film feel incredibly real. Within the first 20 minutes we are shaken to our core as Thanos shows us he means business. The stakes after that suddenly feels real , something not felt in a marvel film due to jokes and banter, the serious moments are not undercut by comedy and they are dire consequences going up against Thanos. The characters while stretched out by their numbers, so if you haven't watched the previous marvel films ( core ones being iron man , guardians 1 & 2 , thor : ragnarok , civil war ,avengers 1 , thor ) you could end up feeling very lost . The film is a never ending thrill ride of wow moments after the half way mark.
The action and setpieces are top notch , as expected of the Russo brothers, their captain america movies , winter soldier and civil war in my opinion have the best action in the MCU
Now t, infinity war is EXHAUSTING , as a film it is a roller-coaster, and for many the desire to rewatch immediately might be low, juggling so many characters to the best of its ability has a downside , it moves a little too quick and you can get a little lost in what's happening , but they are plenty of moments that shock you into focus , and dazzling action that is a near wonder. All in all I am amazed at what this film managed to pull off. It's the most "comic book" of all the marvel movies so far , like paper come to life.
Final score : 8.5/10 , very great.
Avengers infinity war is an amazing but overwhelming experience, a strong conclusion to tie up 15 movies worth of world building with tons of fun , real stakes and heartfelt drama
